Planting, reproduction and care

By its nature, Norway willow is not a picky plant. It is possible to highlight the following features:

  • Can develop in a wide variety of areas
  • Easily tolerates frost
  • Not afraid of drought and hot weather
  • Loves light, indifferent to soil

The holly willow has a large rhizome, so it strengthens the soil well. It develops well on the sands. She is not afraid of air that is polluted with gas or smoke.

Willow reproduces in different ways. You can use seeds for this. When placed in moist soil, they will germinate after 2 days. When seeds are planted, good soil moisture must be provided. If this is not done, then sprouts will not appear.

You can also propagate willow using cuttings or overgrowth of the root system. But many people choose the simpler method: they buy an adult seedling. In this case, you do not need to wait for a long period for the seeds to germinate, and a full-fledged tree will grow from them.

Parts used and their preparation

In the holly willow, foliage and bark are used for a variety of purposes. This is due to the fact that these parts are saturated with medicinal components that provide benefits to the body.

But you should know the rules for harvesting bark. This procedure is done in the spring, when the juices are actively moving in the tree. The bark is carefully peeled off and cut into small pieces. They are laid out on some kind of flat surface and placed in the sun.

After that, the prepared bark is placed for drying. To do this, it is better to use a drying chamber, and put the heating in it up to 50 degrees. Such conditions are considered the most favorable for the preparation of raw materials.

When the bark is ready, it must be put into bags. So that it does not get damp, does not become moldy, the pieces should not be stacked tightly. You need to keep the dried bark in a dry place, and you need to use it for 4 years. After the elapsed time, it loses its healing properties, so its use will be meaningless.
