Growing thyme creeping

Creeping thyme is more popularly known as thyme. Growing thyme creeping needs
for different purposes:

  • medicinal plant (for toothache and headache, asthma, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, etc.);
  • food plant (as a seasoning for fatty main dishes, tea additives);
  • an ornamental plant (a climbing stem with small lilac flowers is a living decoration of the garden);
  • technical plant (for obtaining essential oil).

It is better to start growing creeping thyme with the shoots that are obtained by dividing the bush. You can sow seeds, but from them the plant develops very slowly.

This unpretentious perennial plant grows in steppe zones. Thyme loves the sun, it is drought-resistant, it takes root easily. Thyme's enemies are shade and dampness.

Growing creeping thyme is easy. Key recommendations:

  1. you need to plant shoots at a distance of about 10 cm from each other;
  2. in the first year there will be only green twigs, they need to be weeded periodically;
  3. in the second year, the plant will begin to bloom, the twigs can be pinned to the ground and sprinkled with a little earth;
  4. you need to thin out and direct the thyme bushes so that they close together and form a rug;
  5. during flowering, the tops of the thyme are cut and dried (preferably in the shade);
  6. after 4-5 years, thyme beds will need to be thinned out.

Thus, the cultivation of creeping thyme is a completely easy process, but this fragrant herb will last for more than one year.
