Features of growing Pak Choi

Pak-choi is a relative of white cabbage, which has long occupied a leading place in plant growing in Russia and Europe. But the growing pack has several fundamentally new properties.

You can grow it by the seedling method. Seedlings are formed in about 3 to 4 weeks. Because cabbage is very early maturing, it is grown in Asia several times during the season. In Russia, it can be sown in late June - early July. This is much better than early spring. It is necessary to sow in grooves, depth - 3 - 4 cm.

Pak-choi is not demanding on soil. The soil may not be fertilized or only slightly fertilized. After the cabbage is planted, the crop can be harvested in a month. Many people confuse Pak-choi with a special type of greenery. After all, she does not give traditional heads of cabbage. But it's still cabbage, even though it looks more like a salad.

Harvesting can be done very quickly. After 25 - 30 days, the cabbage is ready. To speed up the germination of seeds, the soil in the seedling boxes is prepared with a very soft, loose consistency. If the climate is warm, then you can start sowing the plant from the end of March. It is better to do this in several stages in order to constantly have a fresh harvest. The interval between sowing can be done for 10 days.

When 4 - 5 leaves appear, the plant is transferred to the ridge. This usually happens 20 to 25 days after sowing.

Sometimes pak choy cabbage does not take root after transplantation. Therefore, it is better to sow it in the ground. The distance between the sown seeds should be 30 cm. The rows should be made even, neat. So that the surface does not dry out and the seeds do not disappear, the soil is covered with a film. Maximum 10 days - and you can see cabbage shoots!

The cruciferous flea loves to feast on tender sprouts, so immediately after sowing, the bed is sprinkled with ash. She will scare away the enemy.

Soil preparation for pak choy cabbage

Have you decided to grow pak choy cabbage? We'll have to think about the quality of the soil in advance, since autumn. It needs not only to be dug up, but at the same time fertilized. Organic is best. You need 1 bucket to fertilize 1 sq.m. Superphosphate (tablespoon) is ideal for this. If the soil is acidic, lime can be added. When spring comes, the soil is loosened.

Before planting, the earth is dug up. When digging, the layers should not be turned over, by 1 sq. m it is better to add urea - one teaspoon is enough. If organic fertilization has not been carried out since the fall, then in the spring you can correct the situation - with the help of ordinary humus.

Pak-choy cabbage yield

Cabbage is resistant to growing conditions, diseases. It gives a good yield, rich in vitamins.

To get a good harvest, you need to know some of the characteristics of the plant. First, if the day is lengthening, the cabbage can go to the arrow. Therefore, cabbage planted in May grows very quickly, then gives a stem and begins to bloom. And if you plant it in July, then the yield will be maximum. If the climate is warm, then you can plant it in August and September. You can gradually plant more and more rows throughout the season.

The main thing is to try to choose a place for pak-choi. An important condition - in the previous year, no other varieties of cabbage were grown on this site. It's easy to explain - they have common pests. During the growing season, it is not recommended to process it. In general, the plant is unpretentious, withstands a cool climate.

Pest control on pak choy cabbage is similar to pest control on any other type of cabbage. The most common are cabbage fleas. They stick around the cabbage leaves of a young plant and cause irreparable harm to it. If you do not take action, the plant will die completely.

If there are a lot of these pests on the site, then they will eat the plant even before it emerges from the ground. After all, fleas winter in the upper layers of the soil. To prevent lesions from flea beetles, you can use watering and loosening the soil. But this does not always work. Therefore, after watering, ash should be applied to the moistened leaves, which the fleas strongly dislike. The ash should also be sprayed onto the soil immediately after sowing.
