Tulips in the photo, in bouquets and in the garden will always delight the eye because their bright buds and blossoming flowers fill the room or the territory of the garden plot with brightness, a variety of flower shapes.

Not everyone decides to grow tulips in their country house, because it will still be necessary to tinker with their bulbs. But still, this process cannot outweigh the pleasure from the sight of a blooming flower bed of tulips.

How to grow tulips

In order for tulips to release green leaves faster, and then bloom, it will be better to apply fertilizer even when there is snow on the flower bed. It is only necessary to take into account the fact that the abundance of salts in fertilizers can adversely affect the growth of tulips, therefore, apply a dose of fertilizer half the amount indicated on the label.

The second feeding is best done at the budding stage. This gives the plants strength, the flowers are larger. For the third time in a season, tulips are fed after flowering, about a week later.

It is worth observing your plants, which helps to determine what substances are lacking in tulips.

  • if the leaves become very narrow, are not able to maintain an upright position, they acquire a reddish tint - the point is a lack of nitrogen in the soil;
  • a greenish-blue edging along the edges of the leaves appears when the soil is poor in potassium and phosphorus.

In the spring, after the snow melts, it is necessary to carefully inspect the tulip planting sites. Diseased plants must be dug up along with the bulbs so that the disease does not spread to healthy tulips. It is advisable to spill a hole from such a plant with a solution of potassium permanganate with a temperature of 70 to 100 degrees in order to kill the pathogenic flora.

It is worthwhile to carefully carry out all the procedures for caring for tulips so as not to damage their foliage and, most importantly, onions. Indeed, through even a small damage, unwanted microbes can enter the bulb, and the disease will begin.

In the stage of bud and flowering ripening, tulips need abundant watering, since a lot of nutrients are consumed by plants for flowering.

The condition for the formation of a strong bulb is the removal of faded flowers. It is better not to cut the flowers, but to pick them off with your bare hands. If the pod is allowed to form, the bulb can develop into a mass of small, decaying bulbs. This will not allow you to get strong plants with large flowers next year.

Tulips are preferable to plant in the lungs, with good soil drainage, in sunny places. Usually tulip bulbs are dug up every year and stored until autumn. But you can dig them deeper, fertilize regularly and then you can leave them growing in one place for three to four years.

How to keep tulips in a bouquet

When we are given flowers, we all want to keep them longer and admire their beauty. There are several techniques that allow you to keep cut tulips in a bouquet, in a vase.

  • If you cut tulips from a flower bed, then it is better to do it in the morning, when it is still cool. So the flowers retain their turgor better. This condition is especially important for cutting in the hot season. If the weather is cool, then at any time of the day you can make cuts.
  • It is better to cut off those flowers, the buds of which have acquired their characteristic color and have begun to open a little.
  • After cutting, you need to remove the lower leaves from the stems so that they do not affect the rapid deterioration of the water in the vase.
  • A vase for tulips is preferable not very deep, the water in it should be cool, but not cold immediately from the tap, but settled.
  • Sugar-sweetened water keeps tulips very well in a vase. As an antiseptic, one aspirin tablet is often used.
  • You can throw a small piece of charcoal or a crystal of potassium permanganate into it to prevent decay of water.
  • Do not put a vase of flowers near central heating batteries or in a place that is too sunlit.
  • To make the tulips in the vase delight you longer, change the water to fresh every day, rinsing the walls of the vase.
  • It is necessary every day and slightly shorten the stem, leaving a fresh cut. This should be done under running water with a very sharp knife. After making the cut, you need to firmly grip it with your finger so that an air lock does not form, then bring the flower to the vase and immerse it in water.

If you want to see longer not only tulips in the photo, but also a bouquet of them in a vase, do not put them together with lilies, roses, carnations, lilies of the valley and orchids in one container.
